This is a preliminary charcoal sketch of a portrait of my friend Emily. The drawing is for reference before I begin a full-color portrait in oil paint.
I like the dramatic lighting; it makes her mysterious but a little vulnerable coming out of that shadow. She's a complex woman and deserves a complex portrait. The image is 18 x 24 inches. |
